An eye-in-the-sky adventure

An eye-in-the-sky adventure

The Dursey Island Cable Car is a short ride over a very treacherous sound at the southern tip of Ireland. I is a lifeline for those who live and work on the Island. And it is a huge adventure for tourists visiting.

The Beara Peninsula is stunning, but driving it takes your full attention on the road.

Driving the Beara Peninsula

And traffic jams for sheep are just as common as too many tourists on the roadway.

The animals always have the right of way.

This guy wasn’t on the road, just alongside it.

But once you arrive you see it was worth every turn. And the Dursey Cable Car awaits. It’s the only way to get to Dursey Island. The Dursey Sound is so treacherous that trios by boat are made….but not very often. The cable car takes you over in just 8 minutes. And it funs every 15 minutes all day long. And if you thought the views on the ground were fabulous…just wait til you see them from above!

Cliffs from above the Dursey Sound

You see so much from the cable car.

And once you get there you find that there are far more sheep than people!

The sheep don’t even notice those coming and going.

The Cable Car isn’t for everyone. But you can hear from those who run it…and those who ride it…in this podcast. Just click the audio bar at the top of this page and enjoy!
