MacGregor's Bar

MacGregor's Bar

Bruce MacGregor is a living legend in Inverness. He has been a known fiddler for decades. He’s a staple of the community. And he seriously believes in all things Scottish.

MacGregor’s Bar showcases Scottish food, an authentic atmosphere and Scottish Whiskey. “We really wanted to promote all of the wonderful local things on our doorstep,” he tells me. As part of that he plays here whenever he can, which is when his own Band Blazin’ Fiddles isn’t on tour. But he also brings in the best of the locals.

“The plan was always to have music here, to focus on it,” he says. “It takes a real effort to keep the traditional music alive so it is there for others to hear. But it’s also just so much fun to play, and to listen to.”

Because the venue is a bar, not a concert hall, the bands he hosts are generally smaller. When I was there a 4-piece band called Northward filled the building with music for an hour or so. And when Bruce took over later in the evening the place was packed!

It’s the kind of place you want to just hang out, listen to fine music and be a part of the fun.
