Kilkenny Castle is what fairytales were written about. It has survived 800 years of change and it is the centerpiece of the town of Kilkenny. But it is by no means the only thing to see there.

There is a medieval mile that winds its way through town past shops and museums and restaurants including Kytler’s Inn, known as a Witch’s Kitchen. You see, it was owned by Alice Kytler and she was the first witch tried in Ireland. She had four husbands who all died in a curious way. And those who run Kytler’s Inn these days, say her presence is felt all the time in the 14th century pub. You can hear all about her in Episode 39 of Erin’s Isle.

And you’ll hear Caroline Keane, a national treasure. She is known as a world class musician playing concertina. But if you’re lucky you just might run into her sitting in at a local pub.

Hear her playing in Kilkenny on a Tuesday night.

All that and more in Episode 39 of Erin’s Isle.
