Murphy's Ice Cream; a harmony of flavors

Murphy's Ice Cream; a harmony of flavors

You can only find Murphy’s ice cream in Ireland. And the irony is that once you’re there, it’s hard to miss a Murphy’s Ice Cream Shop. They are bright blue and chances are there is a line out the door.

Salt Water, Irish Brown Bread or Creamy Dreamy Caramel?

There are shops in Dingle, where it’s made, Dublin, Killarney, Galway and Kildare. And they all offer the same product; ice cream made by hand, made with no colorings, flavorings or powdered milk since 2000.

Brothers Sean and Kieran Murphy were raised in the states but drawn to their family ties in Ireland in the 1990s. Sean is the business end of the company, Kieran is creative with the flavors. In fact a big winning flavor for them was Sea Water, which sounds odd but is amazing. It came to be when Kieran thought about what the taste of summer was to him. And that bit of salt on your lips as you come out of the sea came to mind. It’s made with sea water from Dingle.

Their flavors range from Irish brown bread, to honeycomb caramel, and from chocolate whiskey to sea water and dreamy creamy caramel. And Sean says the success is in the harmony. Harmony of flavors, of homegrown ingredients, of personalities and of mission.

Harmony like the UCD Choral Scholars put into every performance they have. And that is next level. There is an entire podcast about the UCD Choral Scholars for reference…as well as weaving their harmonies into this podcast.

So when in Ireland keep your eyes and ears open for harmony in many forms, and Murphy’s ice cream offering a harmony of flavors all their own.
