Ep 24: Now We're Cookin'
If you’ve never been to Ireland you likely expect that what you’ll find here is corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, turnips and more potatoes. Boy are you wrong! First of all corned beef is an American thing. They’ve never had it here. It was what they could afford in the US that was most like ham and here ham is called bacon. So here you can find bacon and cabbage and you can find potatoes on pretty much any menu, (often many versions of potatoes) but Ireland has so much more to offer.
In fact, Ballymaloe, is an internationally known cookery school here, teaching the best of dependable recipes and how to embellish them for kitchens around the world.
And if you are more into the tasting than the actual cooking, Galway Food Tours will take you on a two hour tasting trip through the best of the food in the west of Ireland. And it showcases everything from turnip sushi to fresh oysters to spirits.
All that and A Broad Abroad, in Episode 24 of Erin’s Isle.
