Don't Miss The Dragons
The Ulster Museum is just a stroll past Queen's College in Belfast and it documents the history of the area in five full floors of exhibits. But for me these dragons hanging in the foyer were one of the most captivating things to see.
The details the artist, Bob Johnston, puts into all of his work is to be marveled at. He's a traditional master basket maker and has been creating lifelike sculptures since 2000. He uses 40 different varieties of willow to get the size, the textures and the colors he needs for everything from Hippos to Black Bears to Warthogs to Deadly Dragons.
He's based in Bangor, which is County Down, and has been creating such sculptures since 2000. After studying with master basket weavers across Ireland and Europe, he's found his niche in the art world. There's no doubt about that!
